What Is EFT Tapping?

Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT), often called "tapping," is a simple yet powerful method that combines gentle tapping on specific acupressure points with focused thoughts and positive statements. Developed in the 1990s and refined over decades of clinical use, EFT draws on principles from acupuncture, cognitive therapy, and exposure therapy — without needles and without requiring you to relive painful memories for long stretches of time. Many people describe it as a practical self-help tool they can use anywhere: at home, before a stressful appointment, or in session with a trained practitioner.

How Tapping Works

During EFT, you lightly tap a sequence of meridian points on the face, upper body, and hands while naming what is bothering you and pairing it with an accepting phrase such as "Even though I feel this anxiety, I deeply and completely accept myself." This combination helps calm the nervous system, reduce the intensity of difficult emotions, and create space for more balanced thinking. Sessions typically move through rating your distress on a simple scale, tapping through the points, and checking in again — often noticing a meaningful shift within minutes. EFT does not replace medical or mental health care, but it can be a valuable complement for everyday stress, emotional blocks, and the kind of inner resistance that keeps old patterns in place.

What EFT Can Help With

  • Anxiety, worry, and everyday stress
  • Phobias and performance nerves
  • Grief, loss, and emotional overwhelm
  • Cravings and unwanted habits
  • Physical tension and discomfort linked to emotion
  • Negative self-talk and limiting beliefs

EFT & Hypnosis Together

At Cherry Creek Hypnosis in Denver, EFT pairs naturally with hypnotherapy and grief recovery work. Hypnosis helps access the subconscious mind for deep, lasting change; EFT offers a hands-on way to release emotional charge in the moment. Together, they support a gentler path toward emotional well-being — whether you are working through grief, dental fear, smoking cessation, anxiety, or simply want to feel more grounded in daily life. Robin Gensburg, CHt, integrates evidence-informed mind-body approaches tailored to each client, in person at our Cherry Creek office or through secure virtual sessions nationwide.

You do not need prior experience to benefit from EFT. Many clients are surprised by how approachable tapping feels — and how quickly they can learn to use basic sequences on their own between sessions. If you are curious whether EFT or hypnosis is right for your goals, we invite you to request a consultation. We will listen to what you are facing, answer your questions, and recommend a plan that fits your pace and comfort level.
